What is Emunah?

Emunah is Hebrew and translated to English, faith would be a proper word to use. But what is Emunah? It is not simply a world but more of a concept which one has to study in order to understand. The good thing about this concept is that once you get into it your outlook starts to change. Emunah is really the only thing that you can learn which will change your life for real!

So what is Emunah?

Emunah is to understand that everything that happens in life is meant to happen and happens for good. This means every little thing. Emunah also includes the idea that each person in this world has a purpose and a reason for being here. As you can see, Emunah is no small thing and the moment you scratch a bit on the surface of its meaning you are full of questions…

But that can’t be!

Are you saying that a broken cup in the morning, a bus that came late and a cold is all on purpose and for my good? Yes, this is what people with Emunah are saying! The concept of Emunah means that everything that happens to you, happens because G-d wills it and sees to it. Once you start to live your life with the glasses of Emunah you also understand how you might be able to influence your life and learn something from all of those things you used to take as stuff that just happens without any meaning or purpose.

Where can I learn Emunah?

The master of Emunah today is Rabbi Shalom Arush. He has been able to write books on this concept and they are books that you can understand. Thanks to his student, Rabbi Lazer Brody, the English speaking world can read these books and also hear CDs and see video lessons online on the subject of Emunah.

A good start is the book The Garden of Emunah by Rabbi Shalom Arush, another good suggestion is The Garden of Gratitude. If you read these books you should be well on your way to understanding just what is Emunah!
